Petroleum Production Technology (AAS)

Degrees and Certificates in Petroleum Production Technology are designed to provide students the necessary curriculum for jobs in the industry. Training and coursework provide a diversity of knowledge that can be applied to many areas of the petroleum industry. The prescribed coursework will be a combination of core academic courses and highly specialized technical classes. Safety practices and training are an important part of the program. Communication, leadership and work team concepts are fundamental to the hands on laboratory experimentation and skill building.

Once a well is completed and in production a skilled and educated workforce is needed to keep the equipment and systems working, maintain environmental integrity, and observe safety rules and regulations. The petroleum production technology program offers two training concentrations to meet those needs. The first training concentration is designed to prepare students for a career in the petroleum industry as a lease operator and the other as an automation and control technician. Both of these career areas enjoy great pay and benefits. Day to day challenges requiring problem solving skills, critical thinking and team work as well as technical skills with hand tools and test equipment. The work responsibilities require focus, self-motivation and attention to detail. The production of several wells, as the techs primary responsibility, demand the need for time management, planning, and organizational skills to be efficient in the field.
