WILLISTON, N.D. - Williston State College is pleased to announce that it has received about $165,000 from an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant, administered by the ND Department of Commerce.

According to the North Dakota Department of Commerce website, www.nd.gov, "The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 was passed by Congress and signed into law by the President on February 17, 2009. It includes funding for infrastructure, as well as increases in education and human services funding." It also stated that, "As per the legislation, a majority of the more than $580 million in ARRA funding for North Dakota is committed to education, transportation and human and community services."

"We received a state energy grant from the ARRA Funds Energy Efficiency Program for State Facilities," said Keith Olson of the WSC Small Business Development Center Office. "The grant was designed to help state facilities make energy improvements that will save utility costs."

The plan for WSC is to put in all new lighting in all buildings on campus, buy four tankless water heaters for the residence halls, thermostats for the Crighton Building, and more.

"With our particular grant application, we will see a quick payback," Olson said. "We'll be able to recoup the entire cost of the grant in about 4 to 5 years. These changes could help us save close to $40,000 a year in utility costs."

"The college is being aggressive in trying to reduce costs, and one way of doing so is energy efficiency," said WSC President Raymond Nadolny. "Staff has done a great job in looking at funding that can make us more efficiency and more green at the same time."

"This is great for the college," Olson added. "It will save a lot of money on utilities, helping us to be as fiscally responsible as we can with the resources we are given. It will be good for the state."
