WILLISTON, N.D. - If you've looked at application forms for college financial aid lately, you may be confused, overwhelmed and ready to throw in the towel. But according to Lynn Haverlock, Director for Financial Aid at Williston State College, there is help available.

WSC will host College Goal Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 13 on the college campus. According to information put out by the College Goal Sunday coordinators, "College Goal Sunday is a free event to help potential students complete financial aid applications. Any person interested in going to college during the 2011-2012 school year can attend. Don't let the cost of college stop you from getting an education. Financial aid is available."

"This is the third year we've been involved and held one of the College Goal Sunday events at WSC," Haverlock said. More of the same event will be held at 10 other locations throughout the state.

Haverlock said that up to 50 participants and their families have come to the event in the past and received help with their financial aid forms.

"We are here to help students complete the application for financial aid, especially if they've never done it before. It can be a daunting task," she said. "All those attending will get one-on-one assistance to fill out the application."

Those attending College Goal Sunday will be entered into a drawing for a $500 scholarship to be used at any college in the state. Also, each of the 11 sites participating will enter participants into a drawing for one computer to be given away. "Each potential college student who attends will also get a jump drive," Haverlock added.

She emphasized that this is an open house format and participants do not have to stay the entire three hours. "They can come and go anytime between 1 and 4 p.m. Once they've filed their forms, they are good to go," she said.

If you are interested in attending or would like more information, you can call Haverlock at 774-4244, or go to www.collegegoalnd.org. You may register at the site, or you may pre-register for the event via the website.
