Program Coordinator for Petroleum Production Technology hired at WSC

WILLISTON, N.D. -Jerry Barrow has been hired as the Program Coordinator of the Petroleum Production Technology program at Williston State College. Barrow recently came to WSC from Texas to expand and create new curriculum within the program set to begin in the fall of 2013.

This program will prepare students for long term job opportunities; everything from the mechanical side of things to analytics and automation will be covered. Although it's important to focus on all aspects of the field, Barrow can see things beginning to concentrate more and more on automation as the industry becomes more technologically advanced.

"To be competitive in the industry companies have had to automate. Everything from traffic lights to robots in factories, from remote controlled drones in the sky to unmanned submarines under the ocean, and yes even oil and gas pipelines and refineries involve automation," stated Barrow. "As long as the pipeline, producing well, refinery or virtually any part of the energy industry is in existence, there will be people monitoring, controlling, installing and repairing automation. Trained automation techs can find employment in many industries and their future is very bright."

Barrow has 34 years of experience in post-secondary education including positions at Texas State Technical College, Weatherford College, and most recently North Central Texas College. He also has had experience working in manufacturing, automation, robotics, drafting & design, and has experience with calibration and repair of down-hole oil and gas electronic equipment.  Barrow's experience includes working for Intel Corporation, Tolziens, and MicoElectronics.

Barrow is looking forward to the beginning of the school year, "I love to teach and I love to work in a place where the community is so supportive of the college. With the community support of this college, the program has a bright future."
