Initial Bakken U Scholarship Available

BISMARCK, N.D. - The North Dakota University System and North Dakota Petroleum Council have announced that the first scholarship applications are now open for the Bakken U initiative.
The $5,000 Bakken U scholarship is available to recently displaced oil workers, current oil workers, or spouses of oil workers who wish to expand their knowledge and job marketability in North Dakota.
"This effort is just the beginning of an initiative poised to help make a difference for those directly affected by the Bakken slow down," SBHE Chair Kathy Neset said. "The N.D. Petroleum Council and the NDUS are leading the way in providing opportunities by offering this scholarship."
"Thanks to the work and cooperation of the NDPC and system employees, oilfield workers and their spouses will have additional opportunities to get back to school," Chancellor Mark Hagerott said. "We hope this scholarship helps will provide a starting point to expand the recipient's skills through the programs and certificates our colleges and universities are providing."
The $5,000 scholarship will be available toward the cost of attendance, including tuition, fees, books/supplies, room/board and other educational expenses for the spring 2016 Semester. Current oil workers, recently displaced oil workers, and spouses of oil workers are encouraged to apply.
