WILLISTON, N.D. - Williston native, Karissa Kjos, joined Williston State College as the new Student Life Coordinator, July 6.
Kjos became familiar with the Student Life Coordinator role while attending Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2010 and working directly with Student Life.
"I became involved in Communicators in Action, Dragon Entertainment Group, Admissions and was a Dragon Ambassador," Kjos explained. "The position at WSC intrigued me because I could imagine myself working with students again; programming events and making an impact on their lives during their time at WSC."
Kjos' experience with the Williston community and event planning starts with her time as the Williston Area Chamber of Commerce Event Coordinator after graduating from Moorhead in 2013 to her most recent position as Executive Director for the Williston Downtowners Association.
Since returning to Williston in 2014, Kjos has returned community attention to downtown, hosted events, created community connections, and became a team leader of Williston Young Professionals (WYP).
In her new role at WSC, Kjos will be responsible for providing educational, social, and leadership development for co-curricular programs and activities to enhance student learning. Kjos is currently preparing for the Teton Week of Welcome (Teton WOW!) which will begin the first week of school.
"That whole first week we have events throughout the day to get students familiar with campus and meet friends, staff and faculty," Kjos stated. "We are excited to bring in magician Daniel Martin on Tuesday for the students and we will also be having an outdoor movie on Saturday, August 27 at 9:30 p.m. where we invite the community to join."
As a local, Kjos is proud to call Williston home again. Today you will see her at many community events, promoting WYP and proudly cheering on the Williston State Tetons.
"WSC is pleased to add Karissa Kjos to the Student Affairs staff," stated Kaylyn Bondy, Vice President for Student Affairs. "Her knowledge and excitement about the community and drive to create a vibrant campus and community experience for students is fantastic. WSC is looking forward to an exceptional fall semester with her on staff."
"I look forward to this new school year and making sure the students enjoy calling Williston and Williston State College home for as long as their journeys keep them here," explained Kjos. "Go Tetons!"
