WILLISTON, N.D. - Williston State College again hosted the Region 8 Basketball Tournament, Thursday March 9th, and Friday, March 10th with the championship finals on Saturday, March 11th where Stanley beat Kenmare in a 79 to 49 victory, sending them to state for the first time since 1938.
Originally set to begin on Monday March 6th, a no travel advisory for the area adapted the schedule for an end of the week start date. Stanley (District 16 #1), Watford City (District 15 #4), Trinity Christian (District 15, #2), Powers Lake (District 16, #3), Parshall (District 15, #1), Burke County (District 16, #4), Kenmare (District 16, #2), and New Town (District 15, #3) made up the eight teams that played in this year's tournament.
"We were honored to be selected by the North Dakota High School Athletic Association (NDHSAA) to host the Region 8 Basketball Tournament again this year," stated Dan Artamenko, WSC Athletic Director. "The main way we have been able to treat each team so good year after year is our partnership with the Williston CVB."
Teton Athletics submits a grant out of the Williston CVB tourism fund to help provide top notch hospitality, gift cards for teams to eat in the Williston area, and snacks and drinks for each team.
"Our goal is to show these local schools all the benefits Williston has to offer," Artamenko continued. "Both at WSC and in the community. We would love to sign a few future Tetons."
Nearly all the participating schools are eligible to receive the Regional or Williams County Graduate Scholarship WSC offers to recent 2017 grads of five local North Dakota counties. Students interested in applying to WSC for Fall 2017 can receive free tuition and fees up to 16 credits if they apply for admission before May 1st, 2017 and meet all requirement
