It has been difficult to find child care in Williston, a growing city, due to the growing demand. Several new childcare facilities were opened in 2022 and more are being constructed in 2023 to address this issue.

In the past few years, Williston Economic Development has actively participated in addressing new childcare spaces. Despite these efforts, the community continues to struggle to meet the demand for child care. The lack of childcare workers is an additional obstacle to overcome.

This year, Williston State College intends to convert the Crighton Building, on the WSC campus, into a childcare facility.

The Crighton Childcare Facility capital project also aims to create a secure and supportive environment that is especially created for young children while also providing crucial support to student-parents enrolled at WSC. This cutting-edge facility will offer top-notch childcare services and encourage parents to maintain a good balance between their professional and personal lives. Students pursuing elementary education with an early childhood endorsement have the chance to complete their practicum hours at the preschool housed within the childcare facility as a result of our collaboration with Valley City State University (VCSU). Students can also submit applications for other scholarships, such as the Teacher Shortage Scholarship provided by VCSU. Jane S. Nelson Healthcare Training Facility

The Jane S. Nelson Healthcare Training Facility represents a major investment in the future of healthcare education and workforce development in northwest North Dakota and northeast Montana.

Created in response to the region's ongoing need for healthcare professionals, the facility provides students with modern learning spaces, advanced equipment, and hands-on training opportunities designed to prepare them for careers serving communities across the region.

The Facility Is Open — and Students Are Learning

Construction of the Jane S. Nelson Healthcare Training Facility is complete, and students are now learning and training in the new space. The facility creates opportunities for Williston State College to strengthen healthcare education, respond to regional workforce needs, and continue developing programs and partnerships that expand access to healthcare training close to home.

Transforming Teton Baseball & Softball

Long and unpredictable winters have historically created challenges for spring athletics in northwest North Dakota, limiting opportunities for Williston State College baseball and softball teams to practice and compete at home.

What began as a vision for more reliable playing surfaces grew into a $5.6 million community-backed investment in the future of Teton Athletics and the greater Williston community.

The Fields Are Complete — and Already Making an Impact

The new synthetic turf fields at the Kasmer and Aafedt Athletic Complex are complete and in use. The upgraded playing surfaces provide greater flexibility during North Dakota's spring weather, create more opportunities for practices and home games, and strengthen the experience for student-athletes, local teams, and the community.
