WILLISTON, N.D. - The James Memorial Art Center is currently hosting two unique art shows, one of which is art from WSC Sophomore, Austin Proctor.

Proctor will display his series entitled "Spirits," while Louisiana artist Hooshang Khorasani will showcase his abstract paintings for the month of April.

Comprised of over twenty paintings, Proctor drew inspiration from his interest in the occult, religion and spirituality.

"I decided that I was going to paint my own take on my spirituality," explained Proctor. "I have one set of seven painting where I aligned the seven chakras with the seven deadly sins and the seven heavenly virtues. You can imagine how hard it must have been to convey my message since my painting do not have any facial expressions."

Proctor is known in the Williston art community since he moved to the area with his family five years ago.

"Austin has an expressive, powerful approach to painting," explained, WSC Art Instructor, Lino Azevedo. "He is liberal with his use of color, while simultaneously rendering depictions of emotional extremes in his work. Austin is very passionate about his work, and is always experimenting. He is serious about art, and has an open mind. He's very mature for his age."

Proctor was asked to be part of the James April show by Azevedo in attempt to bring new material to the art center.

"Williston has a lot of county based art," stated Proctor. "I am glad that I have the opportunity to share my macabre outlook and show the community art can be something different."

Members of the public are invited to visit the James Memorial Art Center throughout the month of April to view "Spirits". An artist reception will take place on Friday, April 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., where members of the public will be able to meet and discuss the pieces with Proctor. Refreshments will be served and admission is free of charge.
